The GAIAS store at Pavilion Bukit Jalil — sheer curtains dividing rooms, with a dressed bed beyond

Bandar Bukit Jalil · Kuala Lumpur

Pavilion Bukit Jalil

About this store

Bukit Jalil is the first chapter in the GAIAS retail language, and much of what the later boutiques do began here. Voile hangs from ceiling track instead of partitions, so the store reads as one bright room divided into glimpses — fabric, then pillows, then a made bed, each seen softly before it is reached.

The pillow wall makes comfort physical. Every loft and fill sits at arm’s height, out of its packaging, ready to be pressed and compared before you step through the curtain to see the choice in a complete bed. A note on the original 2024 layout drawing still describes the intent exactly: please help yourself.

White and pale grey keep the room nearly weightless, so colour arrives through the products. Kays+Kins, the children’s range, has its own walnut wall near the back — the first time it was given a wall of its own.

The design idea

The prototype

There is no written concept for Bukit Jalil, which is itself the story: it is the first store, the one that established the language the other five refine. Later decks refer back to it as “Pavilion, Bukit Jalil — First Store Colour Identity.”

The walk

Window display → fabric and quilt displays → pillow wall → kids → consultation table → counter

Design details

  • Rooms of sheer curtain

Voile hangs from ceiling track and divides the floor into zones you see through before you walk into them — curtain, not wall.

  • The pillow wall

Every loft and fill at arm’s height, open and pressable — the earliest statement of the touch-it-yourself rule.

  • Kays+Kins wall

White lettering on a walnut wall: the children’s range given its own identity inside the store for the first time.
