The GAIAS store at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur — the wordmark washed by fabric-like light beside a turned plaster column

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

About this store

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is conceived as a modern rumah terbuka — the open house Malaysians keep at Raya, translated into a shop. The front is social and bright. From there the plan steps inward through courtyard and pavilion, and the pace softens with each turn, until you reach a bedroom at the back with one made bed under a glass-disc chandelier.

That movement carries the product with it. Bed linen designed and made in Malaysia sits at the centre of the store, not as folded stock but as the last layer a room needs before it becomes rest.

Wrapping is done in front of you, at a long walnut counter with stools, because the point of an open house is that nothing happens in the back.

The design idea

Open House · Rumah Terbuka

Stated on the title slide as Malaysia Celebration: the spirit of openness and togetherness, highlighting bed linen made in Malaysia — designed locally, crafted with quality, envisioned for the global stage.

“Inspired by Malaysia’s open house culture “rumah terbuka”, the space moves from a welcoming, social setting into a calm bedroom environment, positioning bed linen as the final layer of comfort within the home.”Design proposal R6, June 2026

The walk

Foyer → courtyard → pavilion → bedroom — public at the front, private at the back

Design details

  • The facade loom

An installation of strung nylon thread mimics the structure and rhythm of early fabric-making machines — the raw process of weaving, exposed before the finished cloth. The thread is a specified building material: FAB-05, nylon thread.

  • Turned plaster columns

Sectioned, turned plaster columns stacked like thrown forms — the “pavilion in structure” motif.

  • The moving wordmark

The GAIAS wordmark is washed by a slow projection that moves like cloth.

  • The social counter

A long walnut wrapping counter with bar stools — wrapping happens in front of you.

  • Pale blue-green joinery

Jotun 6128 Athenian Blue on the bedroom cornice, set against off-white plaster.

  • The bedroom

Ribbed and fluted plaster wall panels, a glass-disc chandelier over the bed, and a green checkerboard rug on brick-format floor.
